Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) is an intensive 5-day session that provides law enforcement with the knowledge and skills for responding to a person during a mental health crisis. The training is conducted by local CIT trained officers, mental health professionals, family advocates and consumers; offering practical techniques for de-escalating crisis situations. 

Topics to be covered
  • Mental illness signs and symptoms
  • Childhood mental health disorders
  • Dealing with the dually-diagnosed
  • Mental health law
  • De-escalation techniques
Participants will hear from consumers and family members, participate in mental health ride-alongs and practice scenario based training.


ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS
Participants are required to attend all 40 hours to receive a certificate of attendance, CIT lapel pin, and CIT challenge coin.

If an officer has to appear in court, please email Jodi Long (jlong@mcadamhs.org), to make up the missed sections/lessons.

Dress code: Monday – Thursday business casual/department casual; Friday regular work uniform.

Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Companion Course for Call Takers & Dispatchers

CIT Companion Course for call takers & dispatchers will provide knowledge and skills necessary to identify a mental health caller in crisis and to respond effectively. The training will be conducted under the instructional supervision of local CIT trained police officers, mental health professionals, consumers, and family advocates and will offer practical techniques for de-escalating crisis calls

TRAINING TOPICS WILL INCLUDE:

  • Understanding Mental Illness
  • Overview of the Montgomery County Behavioral Health System
  • Responding to callers with suicidal thoughts, PTSD, TBI, and more
  • Verbal De-escalation Techniques & Scenario Based Training

REGISTRATION AND LOCATION

The CIT Companion Course for Call Takers & Dispatchers is a FREE course made possible by funds from the Montgomery County Human Services Levy. Call Takers, dispatchers and their supervisors from across Montgomery County are invited to attend. The training will be held at the Montgomery County Alcohol Drug Addiction Mental Health Services, 409 E. Monument Avenue Suite 201, Dayton OH 45402.

Pre-registration is required.

Parking: FREE parking is available in the parking garage off of Water Street. Please retrieve and save your ticket from the garage as you will receive a FREE validation upon the conclusion of the training. Please DO NOT park in ANY of the parking lots as you maybe towed at your own expense.
